A simulation of disagreement for control of rational cheating in peer review

Understanding the peer review process could help research and shed light on the mechanisms that underlie crowdsourcing. In this paper, we present an agent-based model of peer review built on three entities - the paper, the scientist and the conference. The system is implemented on a BDI platform (Jason) that allows to define a rich model of scoring, evaluating and selecting papers for conferences. Then, we propose a programme committee update mechanism based on disagreement control that is able to remove reviewers applying a strategy aimed to prevent papers better than their own to be accepted (rational cheating). The Dynamic of Innovation Networks: A Switching Model on Technological Change

In this paper we introduce an agent-based model with heterogeneous firms which compare their mutual innovation strategies on different network structures. By implementing a dynamic behavioral switching via a fitness mechanism based on agents performance, companies can endogenously modify their tactics of technological change and switch among three groups: stand-alone innovators, collaborative innovators and imitators. We focus the analysis on the impact of these three innovation categories on micro, meso and macro aggregates. Cell cycle: Aetiology of age-associated aneuploidy: a mechanism based on the 'free radical theory of ageing'

A general model is put forward to explain the mechanism by which age-associated aneuploidies are produced. This is based on the free radical theory of ageing, which assumes a rise in oxidative stress with age. It is proposed that determination of indicators of oxidative stress in oocytes from various sources could be a first step in the testing of this hypothesis.

Enabling a win-win coexistence mechanism for WiFi and LTE in unlicensed bands

The problem of WiFi and LTE coexistence has been significantly debated in the last years, with the emergence of LTE extensions enabling the utilization of unlicensed spectrum for carrier aggregation. Since the two technologies employ com-pletely different access protocols and frame transmission times, supporting coexistence with minimal modifications on existing protocols is not an easy task. Confinement, the gluon propagator and the interquark potential for heavy mesons

The interquark static potential for heavy mesons described by a massive one-gluon exchange interaction obtained from the propagator of the truncated Dyson-Schwinger equations does not reproduced the expected Cornell potential. I show that no formulation based on a finite propagator will lead to confinement of quenched QCD. I propose a mechanism based on a singular nonperturbative coupling constant which has the virtue of giving rise to a finite gluon propagator and (almost) linear confinement. The mechanism can be slightly modified to produce the screened potentials of unquenched QCD.

Abstract Exposure to more than one toxic compound is common in real life. The resulting toxic effects are often more than the simple sum of the effects of the individual compounds. It is unlikely that it will ever be possible to test all combinations. It is therefore highly desirable to improve or develop means for reasonably approximating predictions of interactions. Evaluating activator-inhibitor mechanisms for sensors coordination

The possibility to employ reaction-diffusion models to build spatial patterns in sensor networks has been advocated in other works. Nevertheless it has not been investigated how the biologically-inspired solutions perform in comparison to more traditional ones taking into account specificities of sensor networks like severe energy constraints. In this paper we present some preliminary results on the comparison between a biologically inspired coordination mechanism based on activator-inhibitor interaction and a simple mechanism, where nodes do not communicate but activate their sensing circuitry according to some probability.

Moving RTS/CTS to the frequency domain: an efficient contention scheme for 802.11ax networks

In this paper, we propose a contention mechanism based on the execution of multiple contention rounds in the frequency domain (ReCHo), which is designed to offer high throughput performance and robustness with respect to imperfect carrier sensing. The main idea is using narrow tones as signalling messages for performing channel access contentions and allowing the Access Point (AP) to echo these signals, in order to extend the sensing capabilities to all the stations associated to the AP.
